2017 Colorado Classic
2017 Colorado Classic

– Race of the month –

Now in its first year, the UCI 2.HC Colorado Classic covered 504 kilometres over four stages, between August 10th and 13th. The overall title was taken by Italy's Manuel Senni of the UCI WorldTeam BMC Racing Team, only 15 seconds in front of Serghei Tvetcov of Jelly Belly p/b Maxxis.

The Colorado Classic started with a 150 kilometre circuit race at Colorado Springs, won in a field sprint by American rider John Murphy (Holowesko/Citadel Racing p/b Hincapie Sportswear). The second stage saw the lead change, with Alex Howes (Cannondale Drapac Professional Cycling Team) winning the 103 kilometre stage around Breckenridge, with Murphy's team mate Taylor Eisenhart moving into the leader's jersey, one second in front of Howes. Stage three, a 130 kilometre race around Denver, saw another lead change, with Tvetcov and Senni away in a break. Tvetcov got the stage win but Senni took the race lead. The final 120 kilometre stage did not change the overall standings, with Mihkel Raim (Israel Cycling Academy) winning a field sprint.

Rob Britton

Canada's Rob Britton (Rally Cycling) has steadily moved up through the ranks during the past decade, but it is only in the past three years that he has become a consistent General Classification rider, beginning with his tenth place at the 2015 Tour of California, and leading to his overall victory this season in the 2.HC category Tour of Utah, including a stage win in the high altitude individual time trial on Stage 3. This season, Britton has also won a stage of the Tour de Beauce (UCI 2.2) and finished third in the time trial at the Canadian national championships. He is currently ranked third in the UCI America Tour.
